Area
The area of Pylos (Pylia) comprises the southwestern tip of the Peloponnissos from Gialova to Pylos, Methoni until Finikounda and is basically a huge olive grove.
Each year around 50'000 tons of exquisite olive oil is produced here.
To date, this spot has been spared from mass tourism and the first time visitor will look at it as sleepy and very much country like. This, on the other hand, is the bit that gives this area its charm. Soft hills are sloping down to phantasmagoric beaches with somtimes virtually no one strolling along.
Small farming villages with their primitive charm of the Peloponnissos are embedded into the countryside as well as towns like Pylos, Methoni or Gialova.
The infrastrucure has not yet a very high standard, which is why most people travel to Kalamata for bigger shoppings. Of course there is accommodation available here, like hotels, guest rooms or camping places. Most tourists are either passers-by or do have a holliday home themselves. Some even live here all year round enjoying the peace and quiet of this area.
If you are looking for a pristine location where you can enjoy nature, take a bike tour or simply relax by watching the sun go down over Navarino Bay having a nice glass of wine on one of the many restaurants at a harbour, then Pylia is the place to come to!
